Main is actually an avenue. Streets running north and south are avenues and those going east and west are streets. Main Street sounds better.

During WW2, S. Main was known as Whiskey Shoot and Sharecropper Street. The red brick two-story building on the left, now a law firm, was the Capital Theater.
